After I had knitted my first garter stitch scarf I knew there would be more of them very soon! I again used 5 threads of extremely shiny silk and combined it with a thread of alpaca!

Pros & Cons of garter stitch scarf.

Let’s jump into PROs:

  • I love the texture
  • I love the combination of two colors knitted together
  • I adore the ease of knitting
  • The shape goes amazingly with all my jackets (and my husband’s jackets too ;)!

CONs:

  • I wish I had knitted more versions of it (so I did!)

Will I knit this garter stitch scarf again?

If we live again in cooler temperature weather, this will be one of my first makes!

Do I recommend it?

Definitely!

In the photos below you can see this garter stitch scarf with different jackets I have sewn (corduroy jacket, animal print jacket, squared jacket, and Chanel fw18′ inspired jacket), as well as with a beanie I have knitted for my hubby and another beanie with beads I have made for myself.

Have you ever worked tirelessly to create a garment that you thought you'd love, only to finish it and find out it does not look remotely like you thought it would on your body?

The yarn I used:

  • 100% silk yarn from Colourmart (I bought 6 cones of 2/120NM super cobweb wt silk, 50g cone/3000m, and put 5 threads together to knit the scarf)
  • Rowan Fine Lace (80% alpaca 20% merino 50g/400m)

After knitting my first garter stitch scarf I wanted to knit another one, but I could not even imagine how fast my dream would come true! I was yarn shopping online and decided to try Rowan Fine Lace (I wanted to combine it with mohair to knit a sweater), and I bought one ball of the yarn to check it out and see if my skin would agree with this baby alpaca. My skin agreed with the touch of the yarn but not with the color… So! It was making my olive-toned skin look extremely greenish, well, very awkward, trust me, lol! And you ask me why I decided to put this color close to my face by knitting the scarf, lol!? Well, I knitted a sample, and….with another blue color, this lace transformed its color, YAY!

HOW TO:

1 – I casted on 65 stitches using 1 thread of ROWAN and 5 threads of Colourmart silk (I prewaved it together)
2 – Knit in garter stitch as long as you prefer, but 10cm shorter your final length in case if you are using DROPS merino, because it will stretch after washing. I do not like drying everything strictly flat, everything is always hanging a bit, so, yeah, You can also shorten it if it stretches too much in the end))
3 – Cast off
4 – Wash, dry, and steam (skip the last step if you are using synthetic yarn)
5 – Enjoy!
